Our Coaches

Chris Qi Chen

Coach

Chris Qi Chen played for China’s 8-1 Men’s Volleyball Club for almost two decades. At the national level, he worked his way up by playing for Chinese junior national team all the way to senior national team. He has participated in World Championships, World Cups, World National Leagues and has won Asian Championships, Asian Games and Chinese National Championships and national games. He was awarded best middle blocker in 2000 in an Olympic qualification game in Athens.

 

More recently, Chris has been involved in many volleyball related projects between China, USA, Canada and Europe. Chris currently works with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Asia related projects.

 

Chris is a FIVB licensed volleyball agent who works with numerous Chinese super league clubs to bring high level foreign  players to play in China and helps Chinese players explore their volleyball potential in the world. 

Ellen Zhang

Coach     

Ellen Zhang, our head coach, was a professional volleyball player in China. While in China, Ellen was selected for her provincial team, as well as a well-known university varsity team, Dong Nan Da Xue. Before moving to Calgary, Ellen worked as an assistant coach for Auckland Central Volleyball Club (ACVC) in New Zealand from 2015-2019. With her broad experience in this sport, she was invited to be an assistant coach on the women's volleyball team at SAIT University in 2021.

Ariel Galvani

Coach

Ariel Galvani, our main setter coach, originally from Brazil moved to Canada in 2018. Starting from the young age of 12, he always had passion for volleyball. At 14 Ariel played for his city team, and by 16, he was invited to the provincial team in São Paulo, Brazil, to play at nationals. Ariel played all around Brazil up until he turned 22, when he was invited to be coach for the university team in his city. Ariel continued to coach two university teams before moving to Canada.

Andrea Li

Coach

Andrea has been playing volleyball for more than 6 years. During her previous club season with U15 Canuck, her team won bronze at provincials and 11th place at nationals. She was also selected for U15 Team Alberta in July, 2022 where her team won silver in tier 3 at Canada Cup. She continues to play U16 Canuck and is currently captain on her school team. She is super excited and looking forward to continuing coaching young athletes!

Trevor Goudreau

Coach

Trevor Goudreau has been fortunate enough to enrich his lengthy teaching career with his passion for coaching sport. He has had the opportunity to coach numerous youth sports from ages 12 to 17 and has found great joy in nurturing a love of athletic competition in his players. Trevor has coached both junior and senior high school volleyball teams to both boys and girls. Trevor is currently the head coach of the Ernest Manning High School Jr Girls Volleyball Team. Holding firm to a coaching style that emphasizes basic skill acquisition, conscientiousness and personal development, he strives to coach players to a higher level of athletic and personal excellence.
